Vendor Overview: Birst

Here’s an overview of a vendor called Birst, who fit the Fast Track Architecture mould in the BI space.

Birst provides the first complete Business Intelligence (BI) suite that is purpose-built for the cloud, combining the economic benefits of the cloud with the freedom to choose where you host your data: on site or in the cloud. Traditional business intelligence solutions require software purchases, long implementation cycles and costly maintenance. Birst allows companies to realise the benefits of BI quickly and cost effectively. When compared to MicroStrategy, SAP Business Objects, and Oracle OBIEE, Birst typically requires ⅓ the cost, time, and resources.

The Birst BI suite was designed and developed from the ground up to satisfy the requirements of all types of organisations and through a number of patent-pending technologies for automating traditionally time- and resource-intensive tasks in the BI application lifecycle, Birst provides a low total cost of ownership (TCO) and fast time-to-value. The Birst BI suite offers interactive dashboards, pixel-perfect banded report writing and OLAP-style adhoc analysis, all available from a single product interface.

In addition to being cloud-based, Birst achieves the fast time-to-value by automating onerous aspects of BI made possible by the integration of the capabilities across all layers of their architecture. The different approaches are contrasted below:

Finally, another way in which Birst enables fast time-to-value is via a set of industry-specific solution accelerators that come bundled with pre-built metadata, data transformations and metrics to quickly equip end-users with a flexible business analytics solution. Each solution accelerator includes a set of out-of-the-box reports and dashboards that implement BI best practices.

I hope this provides a useful overview of Birst. If you’d like to offer feedback, share your experience or ask a question, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Kind regards,
Matthew Wood
